Episode 002 – representing God well
In episode 2, I start to unpack the overarching topic of why our lifestyle choices matter as a follower of Christ. Starting in Genesis, how should we respond to the truths of the Bible claiming the fact that part of our role as a human being is to represent God? Join the conversations on how the Scripture sheds light onto our perspective of the body and how stewardship comes into play.
scripture
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
God created man in His own image,
in the image of God He created him;
male and female He created them.
God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” Genesis 1:26-28 (NASB)
NOTable Quotes
» We are to be about what God is about, and we can play a role right now.
» It brings about the question – are my choices supporting life and flourishing? Are my food and lifestyle choices extending my role as a steward and image bearer of the King?
» We as followers of Christ who believe the Bible as truth, must take seriously our role as stewards of His creation, as His representatives. And we must take seriously the fact that our food and lifestyle plays a part in that.
» Every decision we make, even about our health, has implications – on ourselves, on the lives of others, and on the earth. We are either following and walking in the command given at the beginning, or we’re not.
» It is simple. Because majority of the time, the choices that support life to us individually, do the same to others, the earth, all of God’s creation. It is reflective because it’s all connected.
» …see it as the opportunity that it is – to partner with God in what it is that He is about. And that we can partner with God simply by our lifestyle choices we make in supporting life, being stewards of His creation, and His representatives.
Show NOTES
Here are three questions you can ask yourself to make it actionable and easy to implement:
- What is the impact of this on myself as the image of God?
- What is the impact of this on others as the image of God?
- Is the impact of this bringing about life and flourishing of God’s creation?
